Just a few short months after the release of her first horror novel Demon Hunter: The Chosen One, author Cynthia Vespia delivers part two: Demon Hunter: Seek & Destroy to awaiting audiences.

"Online publishing and ebooks make it easier than ever to get your work out to the public. So when you have their interest with the first installment of a series they don't have to wait a year or two before finding out what happens to their favorite characters. Electronic publishing takes the waiting game out of it."

Demon Hunter: Seek & Destroy follows up where The Chosen One leaves off with an unlikely trio setting out to do good for the land by battling the agents of Hell. If the portal to Hell opened up in your backyard what would you do? For centuries those that live in fear have sought the demon hunter to aide them. As the newly appointed hunter, Costa Calabrese has Hell itself to contend with before Heaven can be rebuilt. But when familiar faces turn up on the opposite side he must find out if love is strong enough to conquer evil.

Demon Hunter: Seek & Destroy delivers romance within the spectrum of horror marrying two very popular genres. With the exploration of a love interest for the hero it proves to be a bit steamier than the first in the series.
"If a life is lived without love is it truly lived at all? Love is probably the most beautiful and also the most difficult of emotions. For me to explore that phenomenon in a horror novel built a depth to the characters and the overall story that even I wasn't expecting."

About the Author
Cynthia was drawn to writing at a young age where she established a successful career as a columnist, editorial director, and marketing copywriter. Today Cynthia writes quality, character driven novels full of suspense as well as dark fantasy. With a plot pace to stir the adrenaline and keep the pages turning, Cynthia likes to refer to her novels as "Real life situations that you could find yourself in but hope to God you never do." In her spare time she enjoys reading, movies that involve a strong plot/characters, and keeping active through various forms of martial arts and as an active fitness competitor.

Cynthia can be reached through her website at www.CynthiaVespia.com
Demon Hunter 2: Seek & Destroy is available online at www.AspenMountainPress.com, and www.CynthiaVespia.com

DEMON HUNTER
Author: Cynthia Vespia
ISBN: 978-1-60168-258-1
Genre: Fantasy
Publisher: Aspen Mountain Press
Publication Date: 11/27/09
Price: $4.50
Product Code: 978-1-60168-258-1

New interview and Contest Alert

Read the new interview at Love Books and More and comment for your chance to win a dual sided bookmark and a mini dragon statue in honor of the release of DEMONHUNTER: SEEK & DESTROY where dragons are prominently featured.

Follow the link: http://lovesbooksandmore.blogspot.com/2009/11/welcome-guest-author-cynthia-vespia.html

Cynthia Vespia
Author of Thrills and Chills
www.CynthiaVespia.com
www.myspace.com/demonhunternovel
Tweet me
Watch the TRAILER

New Interview over at Blazing Trailers

I have a new interview up at the Blazing Trailers blog. I insisted in a dark whisper. "Something is coming."
We waited for what seemed like an eternity. Sweat pasted my leather jerkin to my chest and dampened my hair. My heart was pounding and filling my ear with the pulsing sound of my own blood. No sound pierced the sky; no monster fled the thick of the trees.
Finally Tuck withdrew his arm and rounded about. "Im turning back."
I shook my head in disappointment. If only there had been something more. I lingered on for a moment before reluctantly turning to join Tuck on the trail back to town.
"Maybe next time,"I said, my voice had deflated and no longer held a spark of expectancy.
"You get yourself too worked up about such things, Costa,"Tuck told me. "And what have we ever come across except some broken arrow heads?"
"No one is forcing you to come. Next time Ill journey alone and youll be sorry when I tell you what I found."
We scampered around a dense corner of forest and for the third time that day fear stood us in our tracks. A hulking shape loomed just paces ahead. From the short span of distance that separated us I could make out that it was a man of considerable stature.
He was adorned in the color of night from his tall leather boots to the dark hood fitting closely to his head. A heavy cloak about his shoulders was stained with a fresh, thick liquid undistinguishable in nature. But it was the manner in which he moved, striding with purpose and heavy feet that held no fear of capturing attention, that had me duck for cover in the thicket and pull Tuck down with me.
The stranger‘s body was alive with movement in every fiber of his being. Ears perked, eyes roaming, his senses were lifted to the extreme. Finally he took a position of defense just behind one of the larger Birchwood trees. His back lay flat against the trunk. He withdrew a small hunting knife from a leather belt looped double about his waist and waited. Tuck and I waited as well, watching with baited breath as the stranger marked something unknown in the distance.
A shuffle-scrape of leaves signified the presence of another. A man looking worn and bedraggled, wearing nothing but coarse patches of hair up along his back and legs, staggered out of the thicket just west of us. His face seemed contorted in a snarl of unbearable anguish.
I wondered if this poor fellow had been the one we had heard shouting before, perhaps calling for help before one of the forest animals scented him and tore him down. But the four-footed inhabitants of Muir would be the least of this man‘s worries.
As he stumbled, still trying to keep his balance on shaky legs, the stranger in black made his move. I marveled at his inhuman speed as he left his cover and confronted his hapless prey.
The drifter could not mount a defense. His best effort was an attempt to bite the man in black before the silver tipped blade plunged deep into his chest, severing his heart. Blue-black blood rushed out in torrential rivers signifying a gruesome end, but that didn‘t stop the stranger in black from delivering several more sloping stabs down into the man‘s throat, belly, and even his face. The shine of the blade was tarnished with blood as he fell to the forest floor, dead.
Using quick, hard strokes the man in black cut a swatch of fabric from the tattered jerkin. This he wadded in his left hand and began polishing the knife. It required much effort from the stranger and I could make out the sinew of muscle bulging from the man‘s forearm with each hard stroke. He ran the cloth over the fine blade several times managing to transfer the dark stain from the knife to the cloth with little leaving the blade itself.
Whether from discomfort or just blind and foolish curiosity, Tuck shifted forwards from his position in the bushes. The leaves and twigs crunching under his weight sounded out like an alarm. The noise seemed to reverberate against the hard bark of the trees and return magnified tenfold against the forest floor where the three of us occupied space.
The stranger immediately halted. Where would we be without that ruthless antagonist that we love to hate?
What is it about villains that draws us in? They come in various forms: movie, TV, books, even reality. Do you know a villain in your own world? You boss, an ex-wife, the nosy neighbor. The real villains are not as much fun as the fictional ones - but that's only because the fictional villains are an over the top extension of those evil bastards pulled from your reality.
But isn't it also true that there is some part of you deep down that can relate to the maniacal criminal genius or even the violent killer? People are made up of good and bad, yin and yang, the side we choose to nurture defines who we are. But, much like The Incredible Hulk, the other side - usually the darker side - slips out every once in awhile.
Time and time again I've heard actors tell me they have more fun playing the bad guy - why is that? Because villains have less rules to follow, they don't give a shit who they hurt as long as it benefits their own personal gain, and they usually strike fear into the common person until the hero comes along to thwart them. There is one major reason to not want to be the villain...they usually die in the end (unless they're carted off to jail awaiting the sequel).

The makings of a great villain in any medium has to start with their bottom line. Why are they doing what they're doing? Why do they want to blow up the world or kill that cops family? If the motive doesn't wash your villain falls flat and the audience is disappointed to say the least. The best villains believe they are in the right. They are following through with their destructive plans because in their mind it is what needs to be done to invoke change. And they'll stand behind that decree until the bitter end - they have to or there is no story. The flip side of that is the psycho. They know they're in the wrong and they just don't give a damn.

Here's some examples of what I mean using some classic villains:

Cobra Commander - Out for world domination...a psycho who just wants to rule the world

Dennis Hopper in Speed - He's pissed off and seeking revenge. Does he believe he's in the right? Absolutely...he lost a thumb working for the bomb squad and all they gave him was a stinking gold watch.

Hans Gruber in Die Hard - At first blush it appears as though he's held Nacatomy Plaza hostage for the release of world leaders. Then it is revealed that his real motive is strictly money driven...brilliant! Money is a great motivator for evil.

There's a new movie coming out soon called Law Abiding Citizen about an everyday guy (Gerard Butler) who decides to take justice into his own hands after a plea bargain sets his family's killers free. His target: The district attorney (Jamie Fox) who orchestrated the deal.
Here's where my theory gets a little tricky. The trailer plays it off as though Butler is the villain and Fox is the good guy. But as I sit back and take in the general idea for this movie I hear myself shouting: "Nay, nay! The LAWYER is the villain here and the man cleaning the shit off the streets is the hero!" That is taken from reality and everyone knows lawyers are always evil creatures who don't care who gets harmed as long as they reach their bottom line...money. Even defense attorneys and DA's are working for the almighty dollar (don't let all the fancy law TV shows fool you). But this is my blog and that's a stated opinion.

What is reality is that in order for a story line to properly proceed you need a villain worthy enough to challenge the hero, be it physically, mentally, or both. If the hero has no hurdles to overcome there is no story. So villains must be flushed out to the 9th degree before they are ready to be packaged and sold to the potential audience.

Appearing on The Author's Show

Cynthia will be appearing on The Author's Show this upcoming September 30th and October 1st. Be careful what you wish for. In a dark and ageless time where the world knew evil in many forms: werewolf, vampire, demon and dragons, Costa Calabrese has just uncovered the truth about his past. Some truths should never be revealed. When you learn you're the son of the world's foremost and feared hunter of demons life's rules inevitably change. Now it is up to him to take up the role his bloodline demands and stop the evil from spreading over the land...whether he wants to or not.

Exploring the classic theme of good versus evil, Demon Hunter blends the highly popular elements of dark fantasy with the proven concept of high-adventure novels where believable, down-to-earth characters take the reader on a journey. It is the story about a nobody who becomes a somebody in the bloodiest of ways.

"This is without a doubt the darkest idea I've delved into in all my years of writing. But at its core Demon Hunter is a story about human frailties. Costa, our hero, is plagued not only by physical demons, but mental ones as well. We've all had those little voices in our head trying to sway us from our path. It is those demons not faced that are the true danger."

Every legend begins with a story. Every great story starts with a hero.

Demon Hunter is available online at www.AspenMountainPress.com, and www.CynthiaVespia.com

Interview with Readers Entertainment Radio 8/21

Books, blood, blackbelts and more! We've become robots. Instead of talking we go on computers and send emails or instant messages. We have phones but we don't talk on them, we send text. We read thoughts instead of expressing them because people are scared to express human emotion when that one quality is what sets us apart from other species and reminds us that we're alive.
Nobody confronts anymore, they run away and hide and then they are forced to take prescription drugs to feel the emotions they've been shutting off. What is everyone so afraid of? Why is everyone so scared to put themselves out there?
Kids aren't afraid, they tell you exactly what's on their mind because they haven't yet learned the rules that society has enforced on itself.
I used to hide my emotions but I was very shy. I used to bundle up my problems thinking I was the only one who could fix them, but I was very stubborn.
I shared today...I'm learning, and y'know what? It worked. I was grappling with a problem, something silly really about wounded ego, but I knew in my gut that this time I needed to share. I needed to express my feelings...my emotions. It helped, I feel better. Thank you my friends for listening.
You know I'm always here for you too, and always will be. I am a perpetual good listener. I like to be able to make my friends feel better. I am there to combat the negativ verses that people like to throw at other people. I am a balance, I speak my true feelings...most of the time.
Death has taught me lessons in life. It is through death that I have come to live...to embrace life more fully. Why are we afraid to say "I Love You." If it brings a smile to someones soul then by all means SAY IT!
Don't ever waste a moment...you'll never get it back. People think they have all the time in the world to nitpick and procrastinate, to bitch about stupid things. Priorities are whacked. You think you can wait on things...even important things...you can't.
I feel good. Why? I expressed my emotions and thus let go of the intolerable pain I was inflicting on myself. i let go and a hug later I was able to smile again. This is not an experiment, this is life.
Bottles are for beer, not your feelings. I believe half the problems people have in relationships...any kind of relationship, is miscommunication. Listen twice as much as you speak, but I mean REALLY listen...you'll be surprised at what you hear.
And so it goes...

Britney Spears

Why on earth am I writing about Britney Spears? Especially with that ridiculously airbrushed photo on the front of her album?

Well, I'll tell you. Normally I stay away from the media darlings...there's enough info out there about Paris, Lindsay, Brangelina, and poor Jen to make you sick to your stomach.

Britney Spears was no different. She's up, she's down, she's crazy...etc. But I must take a moment to applaud young Spears. This time she is making a decent comeback. She lost weight and is looking fit once again. She at least seems sane. And, she honestly has some pretty catchy songs on her new album Circus. Yeah, I just plugged Britney Spears!

She's not my favorite artist..not even close...but with songs like "Circus," "Womanizer," and "If U Seek Amy" I find my foot tapping and my volume dial going up. The girl did it good this time!

So well done Britney! That's the way you come back and shove it in their face. So a big f*k you to those who wrote her off, enjoyed tearing her down, and especially the rag that went ahead and wrote her obituary...you guys are SICK!

Britney Spears is back baby!

CynSights

Expression
Why do we need Valentines Day to say "I Love You."
http://www.associatedcontent.comarticle/1439280/expression.html

The Wrestler - A Review

The Academy Awards are right around the corner and rounding out the Best Actor category is Mickey Rourke, star of The Wrestler. Rourke captured both the Critics Choice Award and Golden Globe Award for the same role. Will it happen a third time? The Wrestler tells an important story. Deep down, regardless of what we do, or our status in life, we are all people - people with desires, dreams, families, and fears. Darren Aronofsky's depiction of the world of wrestling is right on. It's not all show and theatrics. There's pain, there's politics, there's clashing egos, all for the love of a sport that doesn't even get recognized as a real sport. The days of the wrestling side show and the secrest of the trade being under lock and key are long since gone. Now referred to as Sports Entertainment, wrestling embraces who it is. These days it's all about showmanship more so than skill. The Wrestler portrays that aspect very well. It's the little intrinsic details that make The Wrestler such a real and gritty look inise the world of wrestling. Rourke's character Randy "The Ram" Robinson (looking like a version of Freebird Michael PS Hayes) refers to himself as "a broken down piece of meat." The ring wars have caught up with him. He doesn't hear so well anymore, he doesn't walk so well anymore, the 80's were his glory days and they are well behind him. The fame is fleeting, the high paycheck gone, but he still hangs on to all of it for the love of what he does. Randy still wants to be "Ram." He still wants to portray that image and who that character was to him for all those years. Is it dedication or a question of knowing when to walk away? On the other side there is Marisa Tomei's portrayal of Cassidy, the stripper who seems to have overstayed her welcome in a world of younger, bustier girls. But Cassidy's reason for staying on the dance floor has little to do with love of her character, her bottom line is survival. Somehow these two individuals meet each other's needs. Then there is Ram's estranged daughter, Stephanie, played expertly by Evan Rachel Wood. Ram's life on the road has ostricized him from his only daughter and as he feels himself winding down he desperately wants to reconnect. what I found genuinely interesting about The Wrestler was that Aronofsky didn't try to wrap everything up in a neat little package. The Wrestler remained gritty and real and in that aspect I found myself able to relate more to these people. That's a movie going experience that has been lost on big budget features that throw special effects down your throat. It's the characters that really move you. My novel Theater of Pain is set in the same rough and tumble world of wrestling. The characters come alive through trials and tribulations brought upon them by their chosen paths to be wrestling personalities. The 2nd generation star; the aging veteran trying to keep his top spot; and the female wrestling superstar chastised for her gender. It is in the backdrop of this eccentric world that a murder has taken place, a murder of wrestling top star that anyone could've been guilty of committing. If you liked The Wrestler, you'll love Theater of Pain.

So does Rourke deserve the Academy Award? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure...he didn't make it easy for them.
And now with the critical acclaim restoking his career Rourke will actually be heading to a real wrestling ring when he participates at WWE’s “Wrestlemania 25” in Houston on April 5. Smart move? Who knows...stranger things have happened.

Visit me online at www.CynthiaVespia.com
